Wanted this piece to feel like a luxury sports car advert. Going for a WipEout or Podracer style anti-gravity racing ship. Control surfaces in the tail allowing for fine manoeuvrability at high speed. Zoom zoom.
Final keyframe. Comped a ton of different lighting passes together in photoshop, added some photo textures and overall grading.
Sand and dust kicked up by the engines with VDB volumes.
Environment kitbashed using megascans assets.
Speeder model textured up in Substance Painter. Went for a carbon fibre base material. Added some detail to the inner engine with texture displacement, instead of adding more geo.
Final livery pick. Knew I wanted this to go in a desert scene, which is why I'd been working over a sky/sand coloured gradient.
Refining this option which is heavily influenced by the Mercedes F1 car paintwork.
Livery options for the speeder with some quick paint-overs in photoshop. Was looking at 2-tone sports car reference.
High-res. Refined shapes and bone lines. Added more taper to the front engines.
Low-res blockout to pull out some height changes - especially in the wings. Nose and tail shape loosely influenced by eagle reference.
Thumbnail sketches to establish a starting direction.
